How to Set up and Use Windows Live Writer

Windows Live Writer is a free desktop client for publishing articles and images on blogs. It supports almost all blogging platforms including Blogger, WordPress, LiveJournal, TypePad and many more.

I started using Windows Live Writer few months back and trust me, it’s the best desktop publishing software available right now. You can add images, hyperlinks, watermarks, add effects to images, word count, multilingual support and so much more.

But if you are new to Windows Live Writer and want to set up Windows Live Writer for your blog, you can do so by following some simple steps below.

Set up and Use Live Writer for your Blog

Step 1. First of all, download and install Windows Live Writer. (Links given at the end of post)

Step 2. After installing, open Windows Live Writer and go to Blog > Add Blog Account.

Step 3. Select the blogging service and click Next.

Step 4. Enter Blog Url and your login details. Once you are done, click Next.

Step 5. It will automatically detect your blog settings.

Step 6. Once it has completed the process, it will ask you whether you want to allow live writer to detect your blog theme by publishing a test post. Click No if you don’t want Windows Live Writer to publish test post.

Step 7. Once the setup is complete, it will show you a confirmation message. Type the name of the blog and click Finish.

Delete Blog Account from Windows Live Writer

Step 1. If you want to delete a blog account, go to Tools > Accounts.

Step 2. Select the account you want to delete and click on Delete in right sidebar. Click OK once you are done.

Nokia discontinues Ovi Files from 1st October

Nokia’s Ovi Files is a service which lets users of specific Nokia smartphones (those with Ovi support) access their files on their PCs or Macs remotely. According to an official e-mail being circulated to Nokia to its users, Nokia will be discontinuing the Ovi Files service with effect from October 1, 2010. Furthermore, Nokia has urged users to uninstall the Ovi Files Connector from their computers and no files will be lost after the service is discontinued.

Nokia hasn’t launched a replacement service for Ovi Files, but is informing users that, “you will still be able to share content between your phone and PC using another Nokia product, Nokia Ovi Suite.” This is not the first Ovi service Nokia has shut down. The disengagement of Ovi Files follows similar shut downs of Ovi Mail and Ovi Chat before.

Everyone who follows any blog or website knows that there are so many RSS readers out there, web based and desktop applications as well. Even though, most people prefer to use Google Reader to keep track of all the updates.

Some of you might not know but you can use Microsoft Outlook 2007 to keep track of all the blogs and websites. You add RSS feeds of multiple websites and check them on Microsoft Outlook 2007. In order to add RSS feeds in Microsoft Outlook 2007, follow some simple steps below.

Step 1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2007 and go to Tools > Account Settings.

Step 2. Go to RSS Feeds tab and click on New.

Step 3. Add the RSS Feeds URL and click OK.

Step 4. Once you click Add, it will open RSS Feed options which you can edit if you want. Otherwise, click OK.

How to Use HootSuite Twitter App from your Desktop in Windows

If you are a twitter fan and want use Twitter from your desktop without installing any twitter client on your computer, than we have the solution which can help you. HootSuite is an excellent web based twitter applications which enables you to compose tweets, share tweets, schedule tweets and much more. HootSuite for Mac is already available but there is no HootSuite application for Windows users.

But you can easily configure the HootSuite shortcut for Windows so that you don’t have to open the HootSuite homepage again and again. To create HootSuite shortcut in windows, follow some simple steps below. But make sure you have Google Chrome installed on your system.

Use HootSuite from your Desktop in Windows

Step 1. Right click on Desktop and go to New > Shortcut.

Step 2. Paste the following path in the Location field and click Next.

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe –app=http://hootsuite.com/

Change USERNAME with your username.

Step 3. Name the shortcut and click Finish.

And it will create HootSuite shortcut on your desktop.

Another thing you can note here is that you can create desktop shortcuts for other web applications as well using the same shortcut technique. All you have to do is replace HootSuite URL with the address of the web app and you will be able to use it from your desktop.

New Apple TV Announced with Wi-Fi, HDMI but no iOS

It had been coming for a few weeks now that Apple would be finally launching its iTV (revamped Apple TV) on September 1’s multimedia launch event. Steve Jobs and Co. didn’t disappoint all those who were interested as iTV saw its launch today in the Apple press conference.

In the press conference, Steve Jobs first gave an overview of the history of the Apple TV. It was launched back in September 2006 and admits that it hasn’t been a ‘big hit’. Steve Jobs cites this to be because people want ‘HD’. Here are his words: “So what have we learned from our users? They want hollywood movies and TV shows whenever they want. It’s not complicated. They don’t want amateur hour. They want HD — everyone wants HD. They want to pay lower prices for content. They don’t want a computer on their TV — they have computers. They go to their TVs for entertainment. They don’t want to manage storage. They don’t want to think about — they just want to watch movies and TV shows. And they don’t want to sync to a computer. And they want whatever hardware we have to be silent, cool, and small.” With that the new Apple TV was unveiled to the world.

The first noteable feature about the new Apple TV is that it is 25% the size of the current Apple TV. Also, it has ports for HDMI, USB, optical audio and Ethernet on its back and has Wi-Fi 802.11n for wireless connectivity. The new Apple TV also has a remote and has full support for HD. Also, it is a purely rental based device, users store nothing on the Apple TV, and they just rent it and watch it over their TVs in HD. Also, the Apple TV has the option to stream content from the computer without any syncing and a great picture slide show option as well.

Content can be rented from iTunes, the largest online video library in the world. Rentals are as low as $4.99 per day as soon as a flick is released on DVD. TV shows now cost only $0.99 per show. Also, all of this content will be commercial free! Also, Apple TV users will have the option to stream content from Netflix, watch anything they want from YouTube, download photos from Flickr and MobileMe. Also, the UI for iTV is fairly simple with one-click-renting ability. Also, Rotten Tomatoes support has been added to movies so that users can view the ratings and reviews right on their TVs before renting any movie.

The new Apple TV costs just $99, a full $200 price drop from the previous version of Apple TV which cost a whopping $299. The new Apple TV will be available four weeks from today and pre-order starts just now!

iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod Touch Coming Next Week, iOS 4.2 Scheduled Later this Year

In the Apple multimedia event today, Steve Jobs talked about iOS. He announced that Apple will be releasing iOS 4.1. Before he announces the new features of iOS 4.1, he informed the audience with a few iOS facts. Jobs told that a total 120 million iOS running devices have been shipped from Apple and now, over 230,000 iOS devices are being activated every day. The iOS is so popular that since its inception, over 6.5 billion iOS apps have been downloaded from the Apple store; that’s 200 apps per second!

iOS 4.1 will have the following new improvements over its predecessor 4.0.2: A lot of bug fixes from the previous versions of iOS regarding proximity, Bluetooth, iPhone 3G. Also, iOS 4.1 will introduce High Dynamic Range Photos (HDR Photos), ability to upload HD videos over Wi-Fi, TV rental service and a brand new game center.

HDR photos is a function which enables the camera of an iOS 4.1 running device to take multiple high resolution shots and combine them to form a final image which looks inherently better. Multiple shots are taken with different effects; one with highlights, shadows, and midranges. The resulting images look definitely better than usual resolution images taken.

Another major feature of iOS 4.1 is the Game Centre. With the Game Centre, players can play multiplayer games on their iOS running devices. Also, scoreboards, ladders, and replays of matches can be saved in the Game Center and players can challenge each other and start a multi-player game via the Game Center.

Before concluding, Jobs also gave a brief sneak-peak to the next version of iOS, the iOS 4.2. He said that everything introduced in iOS 4.1. will be ported to iPad with iOS 4.2 along with two new features which include over the air printing and something called “AirPlay”. As Steve Jobs further elaborated, Apple is basically renaming its AirTunes feature to AirPlay and it will allow users to “be able to stream video and audio over WiFi to your devices..” said Jobs.

iOS 4.1 will be available for the iPhone and the iPod Touch by next week. iOS 4.2 rolls out for the iPad in November.

New iPods Announced, iPod Touch 4G Gets Retina Display, Gyroscope and Much More

Steve Jobs has started over the iPod line of music players from Apple and unveiled what Apple had up their sleeves for users for this holiday season. Apple has introduced all-new designs for each one of iPod models.

First up, it’s the iPod Shuffle. The new generation of iPod Shuffle has gotten back its buttons. “You can clip it on and go. It’s got some great features. Small and wearable, easy to use with the buttons. It’s got playlists. It can speak the playlists. You can pick one that you want, you can have multiple playlists on your shuffle. We’re adding genius playlists” said Jobs. Moreover, the new iPod Shuffle can play audio for up to 15 hours and ships in five colors. Price is a nifty $49 for the 2GB version.

Next comes the iPod Nano. This is the biggest revamp given to the Nano as yet. The new iPod Nano is also touch! Gone is the click wheel iPod Nano, the new iPod Nano is multi-touch enabled. The new iPod Nano gets a clip as well and is significantly smaller than its predecessor. Jobs said, “It’s super easy to use, and so small, we’re able to put a clip on it too. It’s 46% smaller and 42% lighter. It’s got a clip so no more armbands. Hard volume buttons. Nike+. It works in 29 different languages. And 24 hours battery life.” The iPod Nano will be available in six colors starting from $149 for the 8GB version and $179 for the 16GB one.

Last, but not the least, time for the new iPod Touch. Before introducing the next generation iPod Touch, Steve Jobs give a brief overview about the Touch line of iPods. He dubs it as ‘the iPhone without the phone’. Here is what the maestro had to say: “The touch has been a remarkable product for us. It’s become the most popular iPod. People call it an iPhone without the phone — it’s also an iPhone without the contract!. But it’s also become the #1 portable game player in the world.” He added on, saying, “The iPod touch outsells Nintendo and Sony portables combined! It’s got over 50% marketshare for portable gaming worldwide. And over a billion and a half games and entertainment downloads have been made just for the iPod touch alone.”

The new iPod Touch will have Retina display with 4x the pixels at 326ppi and 24-bit LED backlit color depth. The iPhone 4 powering A4 chip also comes on the iPod Touch coupled with a three axis gyroscope, iOS 4.1, a front facing camera and support for Apple FaceTime. Also, the new iPod Touch will have a camera capable of HD recording and a battery time of a whopping 40 hours! The 8GB iPod Touch will cost $229, the 32GB $299 and the 64GB $399.

All new iPods will be available as soon as next week and pre-orders are open from today.

iTunes 10 Available for Download from Apple

Apple Media event is going on where Steve Jobs announced new iPods as well as iTunes 10. Starting off with the logo, Steve Jobs showed the new iTunes logo, a new and simple one. Apart from that many new features have been introduced in new iTunes 10 starting off with Ping.

Just like other social networks e.g Facebook, Myspace etc, Ping is a social network for music. Just like Facebook, users will be able to see the recent activity of users who they are following. For example, if they bought a track. Users will be able to follow different artists and they can get top ten charts of most downloaded music albums from the people you follow. Users can post their opinions, set up private or public accounts and much more.

Motorola Milestone 2 Announced with MotoBlur and Android 2.2

Users and fans of the ever popular Motorola Milestone can now rejoice; Motorola is launching the next generation successor to the Milestone smartphone, aptly named, the Milestone 2. The new Milestone 2 has just the same relationship to the Droid 2 like the Milestone had with Droid: it’s the non-Verizon version of Droid for the rest of the world which doesn’t like to buy contract smartphones.

The technical specifications for the Milestones are almost the same as those of Droid 2, with the new smartphone carrying a 1GHz OMAP System on Chip, 512MB of RAM, a 5 megapixel camera, 8GB of integrated storage (in addition to the included 8GB MicroSD card), and Android 2.2 Froyo as its default operating system with the famous MOTOBLUR user interface (UI). Also, the 5 megapixel camera is said to be the same as it was with Milestone, but with added 720p HD video recording capability which means Milestone 2 is truly HD! Also, thanks to Google’s Android Froyo, Milestone 2 can be a part of a 5-device Wi-Fi hotspot, something which Motorola can brag about in the weeks to come.

Milestone 2 is expected to be launched in Europe in the last quarter of 2010 with a variable price range, depending on the carriers of course.
