As expected, Apple has seeded iOS 5 Beta 6 for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad to developers enrolled in Apple’s Developer program. If you are a registered developer, you can download iOS 5 beta 6 legally from your Developer’s portal. If you are not and want to get a developer account, you have to pay $99 per year to join the Developer’s program. Registering through Apple Developer’s Program will not only give you access to pre-release software for different iOS devices but you will also get access many other useful tools and documentation.
As you all know, all the beta software since iOS 5 Beta 4 have been seeded to developers through over-the-air updates. So, if you are using legal iOS 5 Beta 5 on your device you can easily update to the newly released iOS 5 Beta 6 by going to Settings > General > Software Update. But do keep this thing in mind that the download might be slow right now as many people are downloading the latest beta right now from apple servers. So, it might take some time to download the file even though its around 120mb.
If you have jailbroken your device running iOS 5 Beta 5 using sn0wbreeze or any other tool, you will not be able to download iOS 5 Beta 6 through over-the-air updates and in that case, you must download and install stock iOS 5 Beta 6 on your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
In case you are not registered with Apple Developer’s program, you must wait for the unofficial IPSW links to be uploaded. You might have to get UDID of your device registered from someone who is enrolled in a Developer’s Program. These days, many people are trying to buy UDID registrations from the internet but Apple has taken notice of such incidents and is closing down developer’s accounts.
If you are downloading the latest beta and want to update it through your PC and sync your device running iOS 5 Beta 6, make sure you download iTunes 10.5 Beta 6 for Windows and Mac. Otherwise you wont be able to update to the latest firmware.
Note: If you are using a software unlocked iPhone, STAY AWAY from iOS 5 Beta 6 as you will lose your unlock. You can proceed with the download and install iOS 5 Beta 6 if you are using a factory unlocked device.
