How to Add Comments in Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel is excellent software to make reports and worksheets. You can even add comments to different cells so that it’s easier for the person reading your report, to understand what you have done. You can either add the description of the value or how you calculated that value etc. You cannot only add text but you can also add images to the comment box.

To add comments, follow the simple steps shown below.

1. Open Excel worksheet in which you want to add comments.

2. Right click on the cell to which you want to add comments and click on Insert Comment.

3. It will open up a new text box beside that cell. Write whatever you want to write in the description of that specific cell. And click Enter.

4. Right click on that cell again and click on Edit Comment.

5. Right click on the text box and click Format Comment.

6. It will open the Font format options from where you can select the font type, size and style. Once you are done click OK.

7. Here comes the interesting part i-e adding images as comments in excel. First of all, right click on the cell in which you want to add the image as comment and click Insert Comment.

8. Select the text box, right click and click Format Comment.

9. Now go to Color and Lines.

10. Expand the color dropdown menu and click Fill Effects.

11. Select the Picture tab and click on Select Picture.

12. Browse the file which you want to use as the comment and click OK.

13. And Voila! You are done.
