Organize Chrome History with History 2

Like me, most other Chrome users are happy. Our favorite is one of the most responsive ones out there, we can stream audio and video faster than other browsers, and our browser does not slow down other system processes. To an average user it might not make complete sense why Chrome is constantly in its beta stage. If you were wondering the same thing, then know that there are still a lot of features Chrome lacks or needs work on. For instance some people have reported constant crashes while using Chrome (crashes of Chrome). Another example is that while most people might be satisfied with the user interface, there are some things which could be improved.

To help Chrome achieve the top browser status, loyal fans who are developers create extensions for the browser to add to its functionality. Users like us can usually eliminate the bothersome Chrome user interface issues with the help of these extensions.

Once such helpful extension is History2.

At one point or another we find ourselves needing to check out browser history. The reason could be anything from trying to get the URL of a funny article we earlier read to finding out what pages your children were viewing while you were away. When you look at the browser history page (which can be done easily by the hotkey combination CTRL+H), Chrome shows you something similar to the image below:

You are shown the history of the current day. As you scroll down you can view browsing history of previous days. One can even search for a particular keyword in the search box located at top.

This layout is undoubtedly better than most other browsers but that does not mean it cannot be improved. History2 does just that. It adds an icon next to your address bar in Chrome:

Clicking this icon shows you a history view which in most History2 users’ opinion is better than Chrome’s original view:

As you can see the links are grouped together website-wise and in an expand-collapse view. Instead of having all the links in one very long scrollable list, you get them neatly organized according to the days of the week which can be changed from the top buttons. If you want to search links that go back to earlier than a week, the original history view is always there and you can use the CTRL+H hotkey to access it. The search-by-keyword option is still available.

History2 is a minor but good way to improve the interface of our Chrome browsers. Give it a try and see if it suits you.
