Geohot just launched a new tool to unlock iPhone 3GS 3.0 and iPhone 3G 3.0, Purplesn0w. This one is quite different from the one released by the iPhone Dev team which can also unlock iPhone 3Gs 3.0.

Its not a daemon that takes any resources, and it doesn’t add a task to your baseband. It’s very close to a true unlock. It patches three files, CommCenter, lockdownd, and wildcard activation plist. Unfortunately, you need to activate your iPhone 3GS with AT&T Sim.

Right now, Purplesnow is in its beta stage so you must make a backup of your iPhone 3GS before trying this software and follow the steps below. Be sure to have legit activated 3GS.

1. Disable 3G if you don’t have it

2. Add apt.geohot.com to Cydia

3. Install com.geohot.purplesn0w

4. Watch for success output in Cydia

Reboot  and enjoy your unlocked iPhone 3GS
