Posted on September 14th, 2008 in Apple |
The new update and a much awaited one for iPhone 2.1 is out and available for download . The software fixed lots of bugs but it didn’t introduce any new feature yet.

New update includes
- Decrease in call set-up failures and dropped calls
- Significantly better battery life for most users
- Dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
- Improved email reliability, notably fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts
- Faster installation of 3rd party applications
- Fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes for users with lots of third party applications
- Improved performance in text messaging
- Faster loading and searching of contacts
- Improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display
- Repeat alert up to two additional times for incoming text messages
- Option to wipe data after ten failed passcode attempts
- Genius playlist creation
iTunes 8 will no longer accept any custom firmwares once the software is installed but the iPhone Dev Team promises to release a patch soon to counter this. So before you upgrade to iPhone 2.1 keep in mind that you won’t be able to unlock or Jailbreak it.
To install it simply DOWNLOAD the software and follow the steps below

I hope this helps

“Improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display”
Don’t mean to be cynical but that reads suspiciously like it’s now been programmed to lie about it’s signal strength indicating a higher level than it actually has attained.
That’s such an incredibly ambiguous statement is’t it?
I mean what would have been so difficult about stating..”it now accurately reflects current signal strength?” Unless of course that would be a demonstrably false statement.
So is it displaying accurate signal strength or not? That’s not an unreasonable question or expectation for that matter.
